Lea Armstrong Social And Community Organization Scholarship (LASCO)

Provided by Lea Armstong Foundation

The Lea Armstrong Scholarship Fund was founded in 2003. It provides financial assistance to qualified single parents pursuing higher education in Pierce County while raising children at home. Priority is given to returning students. Ms. Armstrong served on the Board of Trustees for Green River Community College from 1995-2000. While serving on the Board, Lea realized how challenging it was for single parents to attend college while also taking care of children and working. She wanted to provide financial assistance to those working so hard to improve lives. Lea is a long-time Tacoma resident, successful businesswoman, and civic leader. Since its inception, the Lea Armstrong Scholarship has distributed $267,500 through 178+ scholarships. Over the last 14 years, the amount per scholarship increased from $1,000 in 2003-2006, to $1,250 in 2007-2009, to $1,500 in 2010-present.
